The free Mythic skin most people are going to miss

Play one game before 5 October and Overwatch gives you a complete Mythic hero skin bundle free — 80 Mythic Prisms of value. How to claim it, what is excluded, and which one to pick.

Overwatch’s free BlizzCon Mythic Voucher, claimable until 5 October

Blizzard is giving every Overwatch player a complete Mythic hero skin. Not a discount, not a trial — the whole bundle, free, for playing a single game. It expires on 5 October and a lot of people are going to find out about it on 6 October.

This is the shortest article we will write all season, because the action is genuinely that simple: log in, finish one game, redeem. Everything below is what the announcement does not spell out.

How to claim it

  1. Log into Overwatch and complete one full game. Any mode counts — no wins required, no Twitch drop, no battle pass purchase.
  2. A Mythic Voucher lands in your account. If it does not appear, relog before assuming it failed — that is the single most reported hiccup.
  3. Open the Mythic Shop and redeem the voucher for one complete Mythic hero skin bundle from Seasons 1 to 14.

The deadline is 5 October — deliberately the day before Season 5 starts. The voucher is not currency you can save for later. Unredeemed means gone.

What it is actually worth

This is the part worth understanding, because the word “free” gets used loosely and here it is carrying real weight.

  • A Mythic skin’s base level costs 50 Mythic Prisms
  • Each customization level on top costs another 10
  • A complete skin — base plus all levels — is 80 Mythic Prisms
  • A full season of the Premium Battle Pass, at around $9.99, awards exactly 80 Prisms across eight tiers

So the voucher is a complete season of Prism earning, handed over for one match. That is the honest comparison, and it is why this is worth ten minutes of an evening even if you have not played in months.

Pick one you own nothing of

Here is the thing almost nobody is pointing out, and it is worth 30 Prisms to you.

The bundle gives you the base skin and all of its standard customization levels. If you redeem it against a Mythic whose base level you already own, you are only collecting the levels — 30 Prisms of value. Redeem it against one you own nothing of and you collect the full 80.

Same voucher, same one game, nearly three times the value depending on which icon you click. Check what you already own before you redeem, not after.

What is excluded

  • Aspects — the newer variants are not part of voucher bundles, only the standard customization levels
  • Mythic weapon skins — hero skins only; weapons are a separate category and do not qualify

And if you already own the base level of every eligible Mythic, you get 50 Prisms instead. Note that this is less than the 80 a bundle is worth, so the consolation is genuinely a consolation — if there is any eligible skin you do not own, taking the bundle is the better outcome.

Preview before you confirm

The shop thumbnail shows the base level. On several of these skins the later customization levels look substantially different from that first image — different silhouette, different colourway, sometimes a different concept entirely. People have redeemed off the thumbnail and been surprised by what they actually unlocked.

Open the full bundle preview and scroll through every level before you commit. The voucher is one-time and there is no undo.

Which skins are eligible

The pool is the Mythic hero skins from Seasons 1 to 14 — the run that includes Cyber Demon Genji, Zeus Junker Queen, Amaterasu Kiriko, Galactic Emperor Sigma, Adventurer Tracer, A-7000 Wargod Ana, Onryo Hanzo, Grand Beast Orisa, Ancient Caller Moira, Vengeance Mercy, Calamity Empress Ashe, Anubis Reaper, Spellbinder Widowmaker and Thor Reinhardt.

Blizzard’s own wording is simply “Seasons 1–14”, so treat the Mythic Shop as the authority when you go to redeem rather than any list written elsewhere, including this one.

Beyond that, pick for a hero you actually play. Customization levels only matter if you are looking at them, and a spectacular Mythic on a hero you queue once a month is a worse outcome than a plain one on your main.

Then what

The voucher window closes on 5 October and Season 5 opens on 6 October with Doctrine joining the roster, Sombra reworked into a Support and Roadhog losing the hook one-shot. If you are logging in for the free skin anyway, it is not a bad moment to find out where your rank actually sits before two reworks land on it.
